Boat Races
Lake Placid was host Friday
to all the Scenic Highlands - celebrating the opening of the Lake Placid
Country club's clubhouse on the north tip of Lake June. Boat races
livened the afternoon when a reception was held by the Woman's club of
the community, and following a supper served by the clubwomen, the
visitors danced through the evening.
The celebration of the clubhouse opening followed to close of the
sessions of the Associated Boards of Trade of the Scenic Highlands at
the Lodge at 3 o'clock.
Boat races were the feature of the out-of-doors program at the
magnificent 18-hole golf links is not ready for play, though the greens
even at this early date present a wonderful appearance.
The clubhouse, completed at a cost of $12,000. was shown to the
visitors by the clubwomen of Lake Placid, who were hostesses at a
reception during which they served oranges in a "new"
way that was a surprising treat.
The temple orange was used. it was cored, just as you core an
apple, except that only one end was opened. The juice from the part
removed is put back into the orange and the fruit served "as
is" with a spoon, which permits one to eat it like a
grapefruit. The feature is that the process is, unlike the
grapefruit, squirtless.
Tea was served by the women immediately following the boat races and
then at 7 o'clock an enticing buffet was served.
Following supper the Lake Placid Chamber of Commerce was reorganibed and
then the croud turned to lighter activities and danced until the sandman
called.
