Dr. Seely Visions Lake Placid
As South's Educational
And Social Center

With several hundred people from all parts of the Scenic Highlands watching the ceremony, Dr. Melvil Dewey, founder and president of the Lake Placid clubs in New York and Florida, united the waters of Lakes Placid and June-in-Winter at Lake Placid yesterday afternoon.  While the 'young' man scooped out the dirt that liberated the water from Lake Placid, the large crowd applauded.  Mrs. Dewey, wife of the president, added her blessing into the rushing water a bottle of water from Lake Placid, New York.
Then the huge steam shovel did its work.  It bit into the wall of dirt that held back the water from Lake Placid and then a miniature Niagra Falls followed.  Thousands of gallons of water poured into the canal and shortly after the excavation was filled.  Not only were the waters of both lakes united, but also the fish in the two large lakes.  As the breach was widened the small fish were seen to pass over on a journey to new waters.
